Job Description:

The Safe WaTER Lab at San Diego State University ( is seeking a research associate to work on projects related to the development of molecular tools for wastewater surveillance and the detection of waterborne pathogens and microbial source tracking markers in sewage and in treated wastewater. The successful candidate will also lead a systematic literature review to help develop recommendations for Title 22 reports (for potable reuse of wastewater). Candidates must have either: 1) a PhD or doctoral degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, public health, microbiology, or related field; or 2) a Master’s degree plus several years of related industry experience. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. The position is full-time and based in San Diego, but qualified candidates who prefer to work remotely may be considered for a part-time remote position (to lead the systematic literature review only). I possess a Masters degree in Energy and Environment and over ten years of related industry working experience. I have also worked on the Global Water Pathogen Project in Uganda under National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) where I was part of the team alongside other international and local collaborating partners working on developing the Pathogen Flow Tool. Several scenarios from the NWSC setting using its Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) country wide were used to simulate how the tool would work under similar conditions.
